Behind the Scenes of HEART OF A THIEF
HEART OF A THIEF is set in central and northern Spain, an area
I love and know well. Of course, setting the book there gave me the perfect excuse
to go back and do some additional research. So last spring, I spent a fun week
exploring the various places my characters go. I also discovered a few new places
on the trip, such as Pambre Castle in Galicia, which served as a model for don
Fernando’s country estate in the climax of the book. Here are some photos
from the trip:

Luke Moreno,
hero of HEART OF A THIEF, is a Spanish Gypsy
(also known as the Roma, or in Spain, calé). For more information about
the history, language, and culture of the Roma, I highly recommend the book We
Are The Romani People by Ian Hancock (University of Hertfordshire Press).
